At Delgado Law Group, we believe in an immigration system that reflects America's values—fairness, due process, and respect for the rule of law. That's why we are joining the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in urging Congress to reject the House reconciliation budget bill unless it includes strict oversight over immigration enforcement spending.
As proposed, this bill would give the executive branch up to $200 billion in unrestricted funds for mass deportations—an unprecedented expansion of enforcement power with no meaningful checks or transparency. Even more concerning, this funding would come at the expense of essential domestic programs like Social Security, which millions of working-class Americans depend on.
The consequences of unchecked immigration enforcement are already evident. Across the country, U.S. citizens and lawful immigrants have been wrongly detained, deported without hearings, and denied basic constitutional protections due to administrative errors and a lack of accountability. Injecting massive funding into this broken system without reforms would be congressional malpractice.
Instead of fueling fear and chaos, we urge lawmakers to invest in a system that supports safe, orderly migration, national security, and economic growth. America needs a well-resourced, modern immigration infrastructure—not a system driven by punitive measures and political posturing.
To make matters worse, the proposed budget also calls for steep increases in immigration filing fees, placing lawful immigration out of reach for many families, businesses, and asylum seekers. These barriers will undermine family unity, stall economic growth, and deny protection to those fleeing persecution.
Congress must act responsibly. We call on our elected leaders to:
-
Reject blanket enforcement funding without guardrails
-
Ensure transparency and independent oversight
-
Protect due process and constitutional rights
-
Support pathways for lawful immigration, not block them with exorbitant fees
At Delgado Law Group, we stand with immigrants, families, and businesses striving to achieve the American Dream—and we will continue to fight for a system that reflects justice and humanity.
